Vol. 1, No. 1, March 2006

PREFACE

Welcome to the maiden issue of the Philippine Computing Journal.

This issue marks a milestone in the history of the Computing Society of the Philippines (CSP). Founded in 1999 and incorporated in 2000, the CSP has the following objectives:

1. Promote research and development in Computing Science;

2.Contribute in the improvement of Computing Science education, specially at the tertiary and graduate levels;

3. Promote the exchange of knowledge in Computing Science;

4. Advocate for progressive policies and program that affect the computing sector; and

5. Establish linkages with other organizations in the pursuit of common goals.

In line with these objectives, the CSP has endeavored to come up with the first computing journal of its kind in the Philippines.

This first issue of the PCJ features the following articles:

1. “A Feature Clustering and Multi-Object Alignment Framework for Detailed Vehicle Recognition” Vladimir Y. Mariano, University of the Philippines Los Baños and Rangachar Katsuri Pennsylvania State University.

2. “A Linear Algorithm for Bipartite Drawing with Minimum Edge Crossings of Complete Binary Trees” Eliezer A. Albacea University of the Philippines Los Baños.

3. “CluMSy: A Middleware for Cluster Management” Elaine Jane E. Chua, Reynaldo Jose C. Camarillo, Frances Ellen O. Pe-Aguirre, Jessamine Y. So and Mara Ailiez C. Sy, De La Salle University; Philip Chan, Monash University.

4. “Computer Simulations of Traffic on Road Intersections” Eden Delight B. Provido, Mark Adrian Ramires, Winfer C. Tabares and Rafael P. Saldaña, Ateneo De Manila University.

5. “Recognizing Faces using Kernel Eigenfaces and Support Vector Machines” Prospero C. Naval Jr. University of the Philippines-Diliman.

6. “Compendium of Abstracts of the 6th Philippine Computing Science Congress (PCSC 2006)” Rafael P. Saldaña, Ateneo De Manila University.
